We are the product of our context, both the facts and the stories we tell around them.

I have been so many versions of myself (and so many versions yet to come) that it's difficult to identify the definitive me. Even in this present moment, the context of my past feels fluid, dynamically reinterpreting itself and acting on my present.

We were celebrating my eighth birthday and Father's Day when I watched my dad dive in a pool, break his neck, and never walk again. That moment defined me as a child, and I remain its work-in-progress as an adult.

Perhaps I simply "beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past." But I'm not so melancholy. I'm a perpetual interpolation of the sentiment. Mostly positive, always changing.

BORN AGAINST THE CURRENT is the second WAVE of SOULED. It debuted to the public at WHEN WE WERE 36, accompanied by the ambient sound of water lapping the edges of an empty pool.
